If the saying “a grateful heart is a happy heart” is true, then 16-year-old Alyssa Clarke’s new heart must be one of the happiest hearts ever.
Having survived cancer as an infant, Alyssa was diagnosed with heart failure at 9 years old. After nearly two years on a transplant waitlist, thanks to kindness of a donor family, Alyssa received a new heart at age 11.
Believing in the power of gratitude, we teamed up with our WestJet Cares for Kids partner the David Foster Foundation, who supported Alyssa and her family during the transplant process, to help Alyssa say thank you to a community that provided her with kindness, strength and support throughout her heart journey.
When we asked Alyssa who she would like to thank, she immediately said her Fredericton, New Brunswick dance community. From the time she started at the age of 5, dance provided Alyssa with tremendous joy and it became her life. When she got sick and it was taken away, it was the one thing she looked forward to doing again most.
To help her say thank you we enlisted some WestJetters and a special surprise guest.

From our hearts to yours, thank you.
