WestJet goes pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is a complex disease affecting one in nine Canadian women. This month, WestJet is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) by supporting its work to create a future without breast cancer.

Pink is associated with the awareness and fundraising efforts for this devastating disease, and breast cancer is an important cause for WestJet since more than 57 per cent of WestJetters are women. We’ve all been touched by breast cancer in some way. As such, we’re proud to partner with the CBCF, Canada’s leading community-driven breast cancer charity dedicated to funding relevant and innovative research, and supporting and advocating for the breast cancer community.

On October 6, WestJetters will join runners across the country in the CIBC Run for the Cure to raise funds for breast cancer research, education and awareness programs. Thank you to those of you who generously supported our participants and other CBCF fundraisers.

During October, watch for special pink WestJet pins at our check-in counters, available for a suggested donation of $2. On board, you can also pick up a pair of limited-edition pink WestJet earbuds for $10. One hundred per cent of sales from these items will go to the CBCF. Also this month, The CBCF’s big Pink Tour bus will stop at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, giving all airport employees convenient access to information on breast health and breast cancer screening.

I’ll be doing my part on October 6 as I running for Shauna, one of our flight attendants who was diagnosed with stage-three breast cancer in July, and for friends and co-workers Nadine, Barb and Ann, who are cancer survivors. Please join me in helping to eradicate this disease and create a bright future for the women in our lives.
