WestJet Introduces Econo (Lowest) Fares

Today, just in time for our 22nd birthday, WestJet today announced we are introducing a basic economy fare, called Econo Lowest. A common fare-type on many airlines around the world, Econo (Lowest) will allow us to provide a fare for everyone – from those looking for our premium economy Plus fare, to those guests looking to fly at the lowest price without added features. In short, our new fare option offers even greater access to our growing network and caring guest experience, making it easier for every Canadian to travel. Even if it’s not your birthday, it’s a gift for all.

While Econo (Lowest) offers our lowest fare, there are some important things to know before you book:

  • Econo (Lowest) will not be eligible for refund, exchange or name changes should your travel plans require cancellation or changing
  • There is no option to select pre-reserved seating during the booking process. A seat will be auto-assigned to you at the time of online check-in and you will have the option to select a standard seat at check-in at the airport for a fee.
  • As with our regular Econo fare, checked bag fees will apply. You can find those here.
  • Upgrade to Plus at the time of check-in will not be available with the Econo (Lowest) fare
  • WestJet Rewards members travelling on an Econo (Lowest) fare will not earn WestJet dollars, and the booking is not eligible towards qualifying flight spend to reach Silver or Gold status
  • This fare may not be available on every flight and in every market

What we always provide, no matter the fare you choose:

  • WestJet’s safe, friendly and caring air travel experience
  • The ability to bring one piece of carry-on and a personal item on board for no charge
  • WestJet Connect on our Boeing aircraft
  • Complimentary beverages including water, soft drinks, juice, coffee and tea along with your choice or a sweet or savoury snack
  • Ability to purchase from the onboard menu
  • Low fares – WestJet remains a low-fares airline, in fact we have more than one million one way fares under $150 available every day, for example as of February 23, 2018 fares from Toronto to Montreal for $99, Vancouver to Edmonton for $101 and Calgary to Comox for $150
