Brittany is an Advisor on the Community Investment team. She has 14 years of experience working in the non-profit sector, and the move into Community Investment seemed like a natural fit. Brittany is proud of being a part of a team that is making a difference both locally and globally in the communities WestJet serves. Brittany loves to travel; her favourite WestJet destination is Dublin, Ireland, although she’ll never say no to visiting any beach destination!
Chris is Web Copywriter at WestJet. He loves everything to do with planes and is a self-professed comic book geek. Even though he’s a longtime Toronto Blue Jays fan, his favourite WestJet destination is Boston.
Corey is Senior Manager, Sponsorship, Community Investment and Experiential Marketing at WestJet. His responsibilities include overseeing WestJet’s Fun ‘n Festival Series including our partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays as well as WestJet’s Cares For Kids, Caring for Our Community and Hero Holiday community investment programs. He joined WestJet in 2005 and some career highlights include meeting Mohammad Ali, participating in our first Hero Holiday trip to the Dominican Republic, winning Whack a Mole at the Calgary Stampede, taking batting practice at the Roger’s Centre, competing against Peter MacKay in a lobster-banding contest, spending countless hours on a frozen Rideau Canal, and working with the best team in the industry.
Charles Duncan took the helm as President of WestJet Encore in June 2017. Charles enjoyed a long and successful career with Continental Airlines and then, through merger, with United Airlines. He navigated the commercial side of the Continental business with roles in pricing and revenue management, network planning, and sales. He was based in Japan for 10 years, and played a key role in Continental’s launch of trans-Pacific service to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing; ultimately leading to his role as President and Chief Operating Officer of the airline’s semi-independent subsidiary, Continental Micronesia in Guam. Charles and his wife, Hisaka, met in Japan and have two boys. His favourite destination is Kona, Hawaii, because it has a magical mix of volcanic activity, black sand, beautiful beaches, and occasional snow skiing.
Curtis has been with WestJet for three years and started out with Creative Services. He now helps the Corporate Communications team keep the grammar clean on westjet.com. Curtis likes reading, travelling, movies and fonts and loves hotdogs and making mix CDs.
Ed Sims is the President and Chief Executive Officer for WestJet. As President and CEO, Ed is responsible for both the strategic direction of the company and the day-to-day operations. Ed first joined WestJet in May, 2017 as Executive Vice-President, Commercial. Since starting in the United Kingdom travel industry, Ed has enjoyed a varied career spanning more than 30 years in tourism and aviation across the European and Australasian markets. Prior to WestJet, Ed held senior commercial and operational leadership positions within the Tui, Thomas Cook, and Virgin Groups and served for ten years at Air New Zealand where he led the international wide-body business. His most recent role was as CEO of Airways, New Zealand’s air navigation service provider. Throughout his career Ed has demonstrated that an emphasis on peoples’ development and transparent communication are the stepping stones to success. Drawn to WestJet’s culture, Ed guides his team based on professional values of accountability, resilience, authenticity, aspiration, and humility. As recent arrivals to Calgary from New Zealand, snowy Canadian winters will be a new experience for Ed and his family but if they need to escape it will be to a favourite WestJet destination; Cuba.
Greg Hounslow is the Emerging Media Manager for WestJet and has been contributing to the airline’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram communities since 2009. He is involved with developing the short- and long-term strategies for WestJet social media and truly believes he has the best job in the world. Greg is the father of three including twins, holds a degree in Tourism Management and has travelled to five continents. Greg’s favourite WestJet destination is Maui.
Jeffrey (Jeff) Martin joined WestJet in September 2018 as Chief Operating Officer (COO). As COO, Jeff is responsible for WestJet's Flight Operations (including the Operational Control Centre), Guest Experience (Contact Centre and Inflight), Airports, Technical (Maintenance) Operations, and the business strategy and execution of WestJet Encore. Jeff comes to WestJet with more than 28 years of extensive commercial aviation and operational experience, having most recently served as Executive Vice President of Operations, where he was responsible for Technical Operations, System Operations, Safety, Security, Flight Operations, Training and Regulatory Compliance for the sixth largest airline in the U.S. Prior to that he held various leadership roles at Southwest Airlines, where he started as a pilot and, over two decades, progressed to Vice President of the Operations Coordination Centre. Throughout his career, he has maintained his currency as a line pilot and civilian flight instructor and continued to fly. He maintains an Airline Transport Pilot Licence and is captain qualified on the DC-10, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft. He also served in the United States Air Force flying KC-10s prior to beginning his commercial aviation career. In addition to his work in the aviation industry, Jeff has been a board member at LaSalle Hotel Properties since October 2016. Jeff and his wife, Susan, have relocated in Calgary and look forward to taking advantage of WestJet’s growing network out of the airline’s YYC hub. Jeff’s passions also extend beyond all things aviation, and often involve adventure and competition, as he enjoys sailboat racing and cycling.
A native southern Californian, who is now a proud Canadian and Calgarian, Jenifer has dedicated her career to making a difference in local and global communities. She worked for twenty years in the not-for-profit sector in the areas of fund development, communications, and organizational culture and leadership. In 2010, Jenifer took on the role of Team Lead, Community Investment at WestJet. Passionate about extending our caring culture into the communities we serve Jenifer leads the strategic direction of WestJet’s charitable, philanthropic, volunteer and humanitarian initiatives including the WestJet Cares for Kids, WestJetters Caring for Our Community, Airport Giving and WestJet Hero Holiday programs. Jenifer’s favourite WestJet destination is Orange County-Anaheim because, upon arrival, it means she is minutes from being back at the beach with family and friends.
As Director, Network & Schedule Planning at WestJet, John is responsible for evaluating new route opportunities, creating and implementing our network development strategy, and developing and publishing our flight schedules. When not determining where and when our planes should fly, he enjoys spending time at his family's cabin in Whiteshell Provincial Park in Manitoba. Naturally, his favourite WestJet destination is Winnipeg.
Kayley Gallaher is WestJet's Emerging Media Advisor. She is fueled by people, places, passion and a good story - all of which drive her work both personally and professionally. Outside of the office, you guessed it, Kayley loves (like, really loves) to travel. She also enjoys spending time with Calgary's thriving fitness community and hanging out near any type of body of water. Her favorite WestJet destination is Belize!
Kaitie is a Coordinator on the Sponsorship and Experiential Marketing team and manages WestJet’s sponsorship properties and activations including the Toronto Blue Jays, Calgary Stampede, and RBC Canadian Open. On the experiential side Kaitie has organically grown our co-op partnerships by leading projects like Valentine’s Day in Barbados and #YourOpenMoment with TaylorMade and Golf Canada. Prior to joining WestJet, Kaitie worked as an Account Executive at an advertising agency in Calgary called MacLaren McCann and serviced clients such as General Motors, Imperial Oil, and Bayer CropScience. Kaitie is a born and raised Calgarian and naturally loves to explore the mountains while hiking and snowboarding. Her favorite WestJet destination is San Francisco for its sunny and fun Californian culture.
Lauren is the Media Relations Manager for WestJet and an enthusiastic traveler. Lauren is involved in developing and implementing strategic communications plans and initiatives for external audiences including media outreach and response, external presentation content and crisis communication response and issues management. Outside of work, Lauren loves playing with her daughter, Mae, walking her dog, Ruby, cooking for her husband, and testing out food trucks at numerous cities in the WestJet world.
Liz Guillemaud has been a WestJetter since 2004. She is currently a Community Investment Coordinator and has been managing the WestJet Cares for Kids program since 2010. She feels so proud to work directly with WestJet’s Cares for Kids partners who are changing the lives of children and youth in Canada. As a longtime WestJetter, Liz has been fortunate to experience many exciting WestJet moments. Along with 50 other WestJetters, she was a member of the first WestJet Hero Holiday, and helped to build houses for impoverished families in the Dominican Republic. She was also one of 18 “Cabin Pressure” singers who represented WestJet (and won!) on the TV show Canada Sings. The win carried with it, a $25,000 donation to our charitable partner, the Alberta Children’s Hospital, so it was especially sweet for Liz. At the end of 2012, she had the privilege of bringing home WestJet’s 100th Boeing 737 NG aircraft from the factory. The bonus: Liz was selected as one of two WestJetters to sign the aircraft ownership certificate and receive a set Boeing keys.
Patrick is a marketing advisor at WestJet working in the French Language Services team. Since starting with WestJet in 2008, he has occupied many different positions including being stationed in Montego Bay, Jamaica as a Destination Experience Representative. Shortly after completing an M.A. in Public Communications, this Quebec City native left for Alberta for a year, without having a job or a place to stay. Now about ten years later, he still lives there, but in Calgary, where he met his wife.
Richard is the Vice-President, Marketing Communications at WestJet. His responsibilities include internal communications, public relations, social media, brand, destination marketing, sponsorship, community investment, guest communications and creative services. He joined WestJet in 2005 as Director, Brand and Communications. Richard began his career with Unilever in 1988 where, over the next twelve years, he held a variety of sales and marketing positions in Montréal, Halifax, Calgary and Toronto. Richard left Unilever in 2000 and spent five years working for Astral Media in television in Toronto and was responsible for marketing for The Movie Network and Mpix brands. A native of Montréal, Richard now resides in Calgary with his wife and two children. His favourite WestJet destination is Maui and he loves the free snack mix on board the plane!
Robert Palmer (aka RP) is WestJet’s manager of public affairs. When he’s not blogging, you’ll find him developing communications strategies or working with various stakeholder groups. And when he’s not doing that, you’ll find him on a soccer field or in a hockey rink, or at home in the kitchen on a never-ending quest to make the perfect dinner! RP’s favourite WestJet destinations are Phoenix and Palm Springs, where he continues to refine his golf game.
Scott has been in Safety, Quality and Flight Operations roles for over twenty years in a variety of operations including managing a flight training unit, and regional, domestic and international airline operations. Scott joined WestJet in 2001 as a First Officer upgrading to Captain in 2003. In 2002 Scott joined the training department which led to roles with increasing responsibilities including Approved Check Pilot (ACP), Standards Pilot and Manager, Flight Operations Quality Assurance. In 2006 Scott assumed the role of Company Chief Pilot as the Director, Flight Standards. In 2011 Scott helped develop the new corporate role of Vice-President, Safety, Security and Quality, responsible for supporting and advancing the airlines safety, security, emergency response and quality systems. In late 2015 Scott returned to Flight Operations as the Operations Manager and Vice-President, Flight Operations, responsible for the direct oversight of more than 600 safe daily departures across WestJet’s network.
As Vice-President and General Manager of WestJet Vacations, Tim leads the team that takes care of all aspects of WestJet Vacations, including strategic planning, sales & marketing, product, operations and guest experience. Originally from the UK, Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering degree, and now lives in Calgary with his family. His favourite WestJet destination is Hawaii.
