Gold ‘in Vegas

This past August we took six lucky WestJet Gold tier members and their guests down to Las Vegas for a weekend at the luxurious Encore at Wynn. And let me assure you, they treated us like Kings and Queens.

Upon checking in on Friday afternoon, our group made our way to our suites. Encore Suites are just that….SWEET!  They’re spacious at nearly 800ft² each and designed with class and sophistication in mind.  From the top of the line bathroom with all the amenities, to the floor-to-ceiling windows in the separate sitting room.  Every inch of this haven was well thought out and it was a show-stopper for sure. Sadly, we couldn’t stay all weekend in our rooms because our Las Vegas adventure was just getting started.

After tearing ourselves from our suites, some made their way to the pool.  With the weather at 41˚C, the pool water was a much-needed relief. For those looking to chill out, both the Wynn and Encore offer pools surrounded by manicured gardens with plenty of lounge chairs for everyone.  This was a great place to unwind after the non-stop flight from Calgary!

Later that evening, our group met with our remarkable Wynn host Susan and headed to dinner at Lakeside.  As you may have guessed from the name, this restaurant looks out over the Lake of Dreams, and is a real treat for anyone who’s been. Executive Chef David Walzog ensures guests have access to the freshest seafood, direct from Hawaii through his “ocean-to-table” philosophy.  A variety of fish, lobster and crab are caught and delivered all within the same day.  Don’t worry though, if seafood is not your thing there are also restaurants to satisfy your Asian, Italian, Japanese or Steakhouse cravings.

To begin our Masterclass experience, we were met with a glass of bubbly in our private dining room while Chef David Middleton started a truly unique, interactive cooking lesson. We were walked through the steps to make tuna crudo with a broken tomato vinaigrette, roasted sea scallops with sweet corn puree and Alaskan halibut with beurre rouge. While the servers began circling the room allowing us to try the decadent creations, we were inevitably excited for our next meal with new friends.

The seafood towers here are famous, and now we know why.  My goodness, this is a thing of sheer beauty.  Prawns the size of your hand, fresh tuna with shaved garlic, two varieties of oysters, lobster tails and pre-cracked crab legs; was this real life? And to think, we were just getting started! Our endless food and beverage pairings allowed everyone to be present and in the moment. This is a truly remarkable experience and one we would highly recommend if you’re looking to impress on your next visit to the Las Vegas area.

To end the night – as if it wasn’t good enough already, we were escorted to the Wynn Theater to see the  legendary Le Reve – The Dream.  With new music, costumes and choreography, this show will have all your senses alert.  The gripping story told through acrobatics, lights, choreography and live music will have you grinning from ear to ear. For a truly unique experience, try the Diver’s Dream package which includes a private backstage tour and a seat from inside the 1.1 million gallon aqua theater during a live show.

Some of our group ended the evening following the show, while a few others took advantage of a Friday night in Vegas by venturing off to XS Nightclub at Encore. An eventful night it was as the main event, the Chainsmokers didn’t hit the stage until 3am! Thanks again to our friend Susan from the Wynn for making this all possible.

The next day was spent hitting the shops, taking in the sights, golfing and enjoying the famous Nevada sun. Vegas has so much to do both indoors and out, that no matter the weather (extreme heat in our case) you won’t be bored. We are so happy to have partners like the Wynn where we can show our top-tier guests a Las Vegas weekend they truly deserve.

Until next time, Las Vegas!
