Today we announced our most comprehensive schedule release since we took to the skies in 1996. As part of the WestJet 2014 summer schedule, we are adding five new routes, increasing frequency on 20 existing routes across the network, while five seasonal routes move to year-round service.

Following its successful launch in Western Canada, WestJet Encore moves east to start service in Toronto with flights between Toronto and Thunder Bay. WestJet Encore will also offer service between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

“The latest schedule reflects the varied needs of the many guests who choose WestJet,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s Director, Network and Schedule Planning.  “We have added inflight service and amenities for those guests travelling for business and additional flight frequency and convenient, non-stop service across all points of the network. Our goal is to make it even easier to do business affordably and efficiently with our airline. Leisure travellers asking for more frequency to WestJet’s southern destinations will also see their options increase with today’s announcement.”

WestJet Encore will also launch new routes between Fort McMurray and Kelowna, B.C. and Fort McMurray and Vancouver as part of the largest single increase of flights to Fort McMurray since WestJet first began service to the area. The Fort McMurray expansion also includes new WestJet non-stop flights to Las Vegas, conversion of daily Toronto non-stop flights to year-round service, and frequency increases to both Calgary and Edmonton.

The summer of 2014 will see WestJet’s first foray into the European, trans-Atlantic market with direct flights between Toronto and Dublin beginning June 15, 2014.  Other summer highlights include new daily non-stop flights between Calgary and Prince George, B.C. and from Calgary to New York’s JFK International Airport, as well as service increases to 15 popular southern destinations including Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix in addition to well-travelled Caribbean and Mexican spots.

Was hoping there would be some expansion out of Abbotsford as well :(

  • Bruce

If you have a direct flight from Calgary to St. John’s, why can’t you have a direct flight from Fort McMurray. A lot of workers are from the east coast and would really appreciate a direct flight.

  • Shane Brown

Be nice for a Abbotsford to Vegas flight. Need YXX to get customs. I am pretty sure it would be successful

  • Trevor

if you can fly from calgary to st. John’s NL why can’t you divert from toronto to london and fly into a much nicer air port as well or do the fort McMurray one into london cause you know not everyone one likes dealing with the Toronto air port

Hi Bruce, we’d love to add non-stop flights between every city we fly to, but we only have a finite number of aircraft, so we have to match the level of demand between two cities with an available aircraft. Though there are a lot of people flying between St. John’s and Fort McMurray, there are just as many flying to/from other cities in Western Canada. We do our best to take an aircraft that is available, at the time of the day it’s available and schedule it on the routes that make the most sense. We also have to consider the connecting flight options for those who aren’t in the departure city. We’ve seen large increases in demand for flights to YMM from Vancouver and Kelowna recently, and since we’re taking frequent delivery of new Q400s, this allows us to meet that demand with new flights.

When will you finally be adding a flight to Medicine Hat and Lethbridge?! It is a shame that if we want to fly out of either one of those cities we still have to use Air Canada. Or we have to drive to Calgary, pay for parking and have about a 50% chance that your gas will be gone when you get back because of theft at YYC and surrounding parking lots. It is sad that we cannot get the same service by WestJet as AC in their home province. We will still continue to fly WestJet but doing flights that we want the entire trip to be flying we will have to use AC as we have no other option. Please correct this problem this year…

Hi Jason, as we continue to take delivery of more Q400s, we’ll be able to add more new destinations to the WestJet Encore network. We know there’s a lot of people in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge who want us there!

Love Love Love the new schedule. Folks, just stop for a second and be grateful that WestJet keeps providing options. You can always send in your suggestions instead of starting off with “Why can’t… if you can fly from, why can’t…” Great work WestJet!!!!

Is Sudbury on your radar for future Encore flights?

  • bill gates

    PENTICTON- CALGARY , CALGARY- PENTICTON!!

  • Trevor Bryant

Anymore flights to/from Brandon in the works? Maybe Toronto? Took advantage of the Brandon-Calgary flights last Nov. and was great.

Is WestJet seriously considering removing themselves from the Sabre booking Network? (Expedia, etc.) seems like suicide.
Why is this even an issue?

  • Karan

I know you have your reasons, but I really loved it when you flew out of Hamilton to Montreal and Ottawa. The Hamilton airport is so easy to get to and so much more relaxing to fly out of. I now fly Porter just to avoid having to go through Pearson.

I am trying to book a flight to Ontario for a burial service for my MIL and am very disappointed that you no longer fly between Winnipeg and Hamilton (which is where I need to go). Now I have to go through the hassle of Toronto :( Very sad, that was a great flight and very convenient. It’s great you’re adding all these extra flight, but why does one destination have to suffer?

  • the gardener

be really nice to get direct service Toronto,Bermuda,Halifax and return on weekends.

When will Westjet extend the yyc-ewr flight year-round? everytime i’m on the competing Air Canada flight its jam-packed?

  • Corduroy-Pillows

So bummed about the removal of Winnipeg-Hamilton. During the summer six months I never flew Air Canada because of this route. Now its fair game if I have to fly to T.O anyway.

Yes we got Penticton to Calgary starting this Oct.26,2014 and Calgary to Penticton you can start booking now!

Concur with comments below about Hamilton-Winnipeg. Very dissapointed. So are my 80 yr old parents. Toronto traffic and Pearson airport – Booh! Westjet owners – HELP!
