The making of a Father’s Day surprise

It takes a lot of accomplices to surprise a hardworking dad with an early Father’s Day gift. At last count, our list of co-conspirators included more than 30 people eager to be a part of something meaningful for a very deserving dad and his family.

We were approached in mid-March by our WestJet Cares for Kids partner Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and their agency partners. The idea they brought forward was to surprise a dad, who stays behind in one province working to support his family and caring for one son, while his spouse and sick son are in another province receiving treatment. They didn’t need to ask us twice – we were all in for this Father’s Day surprise.

We know that when a crisis hits, a family is rocked both emotionally and financially. As such, we wanted to ensure that when we brought the Grimard family together, we did so without disrupting the family’s means of financial support.

To find out how we did this, check out our Father’s Day Surprise video.

We hope you’ll join our team of accomplices by helping us share this video. This Father’s Day, WestJet has pledged to bring together even more Ronald McDonald House families with every 100,000 views the video receives – up to a total of 500,000 views. Let’s work together to unite even more deserving Ronald McDonald House families.

UPDATE 10:00 a.m. MT, June 5: We are happy to announce that we have reached our first milestone of 100,000 views, just over 24hrs after the video was published, and will be reuniting another family. Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada has 14 houses across the country and we are working with them to choose a family from one of these houses. A family has not been chosen at this point, but we expect that to happen soon.
